“Welcome to our Pre-Primary School and Aftercare,
where we nurture young minds in both English and Afrikaans, grounded in strong Christian values.
We’re delighted to partner with you in your child’s journey of growth, and learning.”
Hermanus Pre-Primary School is a registered independent institution under both the Department of Social Development and the Department of Education. Nestled beside Hoy’s Koppie and close to Hermanus High and Hermanus Primary schools, our facility provides a nurturing environment, including four thoughtfully designed outdoor play areas tailored to the needs of various age groups. These spaces inspire a deep desire in every child to be part of our school.
At Hermanus Pre-Primary, our mission is to help children reach their full potential. Our small class sizes, led by dedicated and highly qualified teachers and assistants, play a key role in ensuring the future success of each child. We follow the Department of Education’s National Curriculum, delivering it in a fun, engaging, and hands-on way for children from as young as 18 months. This approach builds strong foundational skills that prepare them well for Grade R and beyond.
Our school is rooted in strong Christian values while also embracing respect for diverse cultures and beliefs. We believe that open communication and active parental involvement are crucial to the success of our school community. Together, we can equip our children with the strong wings they need to face life’s challenges confidently.
“FOUNDATION THROUGH LEARNING, FRIENDSHIP AND FUN”
Our mission is to nurture young hearts and minds with a foundation rooted in Christian values. We are dedicated to providing a loving, supportive environment where children can explore, learn, and grow in faith and knowledge. Through our pre-primary education and aftercare programs, we aim to inspire curiosity, encourage moral development, and foster a sense of community, guiding each child to reach their full potential in both spirit and intellect.
Our pre-primary school and aftercare embrace Christian values by fostering love and compassion, respect and dignity, and faith and spiritual growth. We emphasize integrity and honesty, encourage service and generosity, and celebrate joy and gratitude. Our aim is to build a supportive and inclusive community where every child, family, and staff member can grow in faith and friendship.

The South African school curriculum for young children is structured around two key frameworks: Early Learning Development Areas (ELDA) and National Early Learning Development Standards (NELDS) for babies to four years, and the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) for Grade R.
1. ELDA and NELDS (Birth to 4 years):
– ELDA provides guidelines for developing essential skills in six core areas: Well-being, Identity and Belonging, Communication, Exploring Mathematics, Creativity, and Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
– NELDS supports these developmental areas by setting age-appropriate standards that promote emotional, physical, cognitive, and social growth. The focus is on a holistic approach to early childhood, emphasizing play-based learning that is responsive to the child’s environment.
2. CAPS for Grade R (5-6 years):
– The CAPS curriculum, introduced in Grade R, prepares children for formal schooling by focusing on foundational skills in Literacy, Numeracy, and Life Skills. The emphasis remains on play-based learning, fostering creativity, language development, problem-solving, and social interaction, while also introducing early academic concepts to prepare children for Grade 1.
Together, these frameworks ensure that early learning is balanced, with a focus on developmental milestones, readiness for school, and holistic child growth.
